Dr. Joseph K. Francis was born in Queens, New York and grew up in Palm Coast, Florida. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a concentration in Neuroscience from Duke University.
After graduating from Duke, Dr. Francis worked as a Management Consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers at a diverse group of clients. In 2007, he received his M.D. degree from Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, DC receiving awards in OB-GYN, Medicine, Surgery, and Dermatology.
Dr. Francis completed a transitional year internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California and Dermatology residency at Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia where he served as Chief Resident.
Upon completion of his Dermatology Residency, Dr. Francis completed a one-year fellowship in Mohs and Reconstructive Surgery with Dr. Richard G. Bennett in Santa Monica, California. During his fellowship, he performed Mohs Surgery and Reconstructive procedures at the University of Southern California Dermatology clinic, Roybal Free Clinic in East Los Angeles, and in the private setting. He also worked in a clinic at UCLA that specializes in the medical and surgical treatment of hidradenitis suppurativa.
Dr. Francis is a Board Certified and licensed Dermatologist and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Academy of Dermatology.
Dr. Francis’ practice is focused on the multi-disciplinary treatment of skin cancer. He is a firm believer that the Mohs technique of removing skin cancer provides the highest cure rate with minimal removal of normal surrounding tissue.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Francis is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida Department Of Dermatology where he participates in the surgical education of Dermatology Residents.
In his leisure time, he enjoys traveling, fishing, reading, and spending time with his family and friends.
